Some of the most significant part of the interview are highlighted in yellow, while things we can use for filler are green. Im going to start this interview with getting to know Jonathan's first experience with a PC, either through the internet or gaming. The middle of the story focuses on how the internet is being use today, and lastly end the interview on how the internet can change for the better according to Jonathan.

[00:00:10.00]
Sal: so I’m going to be talking about like runescape just because I like it and there’s a lot in common
[00:00:17.26]
sal: so I can start just by asking how where you introduce to runescape or what is runescape?
[00:00:29.08]
sal: do you say runescape?
[00:00:36.20]
Jon: runescape, i think we should start with something vague so its not just directly into the
[00:00:41.28]
Sal: how were you introduced to computer games?
[00:00:48.27]
jon: umm i was first introduced to computer games when i visited my uncle for the first time
[00:00:58.14]
jon: he had this old computer that he had laying around and he had this game called age of empires
[00:01:10.08]
and it was the first game i played
[00:01:14.13]
jon: it was an RTS, real time strategy game where you are in one factions and there is another faction and you basically fight over resources
[00:01:31.10]
jon: i think i should just restart that

tape 2
[00:00:03.24]
so how were you introduced to computer gaming? sal
[00:00:07.20]
j: i was introduced to computer games by my uncle, he had this old computer that
[00:00:22.14]
you can hear the thing when you move it
[00:00:26.23]
jon: so im just going to restart, so i was introduced to computer games by my uncle he had this old computer and it had this game called age of empires
[00:00:42.17]
um age of empires was this real game time strategy game that umm made you fight against other factions and extract resources from the environment
[00:01:02.06]
it was based around
[00:01:06.07]
the medieval ages where there were kings and queens and pretty much
[00:01:14.04]
basic weapons, swords, arrows, ballista’s, and catapults
[00:01:26.21]
sal: how did that game change your perspective on video games in general, did you enjoy console games over pc games or PC games over console games?
[00:01:43.13]
[00:01:50.17]
age of empires, was my first PC game and that was what i played that’s the kind of game i played over many games
[00:02:06.19]
i never owned a console mostly because my parents did not like how it was simply for gaming
[00:02:17.06]
 i was allowed to, umm
[00:02:26.11]
lets just restart that
[00:02:31.04]
sal: so how did age of empires change your perspective between PC games and console game?
[00:02:35.27]
age of empires changed my perspective on games
[00:02:45.00]
age empires changed my perspective on gaming in general, just by being the first PC game i ever experience
[00:03:00.07]
it was a whole new thing, it was basically interactive chess and
[00:03:16.05]
it was just basically umm
[00:03:23.08]
sal: you can say you probably say u like pc games more over console, console games didn’t really grab your attention
[00:03:43.11]
sal: what other pc games do you play currently?
[00:03:56.17]
i don’t play any games as of now,
[00:04:04.07]
i sort of gotten tired of gaming in general, most of it seems redundant
and just not as interesting as i initially found them to be
[00:04:22.08]
no a days, most games are involved multiplayer games mechanic they force you to sort of
[00:04:37.20]
lets just restart that
[00:04:42.09]
i think it was something about playing games
[00:04:49.18]
sal:ndo you play any current games and if so why, or why not
[00:04:59.07]
i don’t play games as much as i did before, well at least now a days i don’t even don’t touch a game or any sort of download link
games these days are just redundant or not as inspiring or exciting as they used to be,
[00:05:21.07]

now a day most games are just multiplayer games are online, there is not much contact between you and another person playing the game
[00:05:41.08]
people assume online communication will bring people together more, and it has but not to the extent that people recognize as a real genuine relationship that people have
[00:05:58.24]
when in person
[00:06:01.29]
Sal: have you played online game where you were constantly involved in the community?
[00:06:10.19]
i never really hung around online communities in games, i did meet some people but we never stuck around together for long
[00:06:31.14]
sal: how much money have you spend in computers in general?
[00:06:39.29]
ive spent about 3k $ on my current pc, my only pc
[00:06:45.28]
sa: can you elaborate on why these parts are so expensive, for people that are not in the gaming, some o f them don’t know how expensive these parts are
[00:07:05.21]
3k seems like a lot, but is not for normal computer use, initially i did not build it for gaming, i wanted to become a 3D artist
doing that would require a beefy computer that can handle the processing that the 3D models require
so that was pretty much what i build my pc, i really didn’t think of it as a gaming machine, since i dont play games and if i do then I’m not the kind that needs that such power.
[00:07:52.04]
sal: do you have a current game that you are playing?
[00:07:58.27]
[00:08:02.26]
i dont play any games these days, im kid of fed up with the online communities, people in those places or groups tend to be 5 years olds that just know how to move around a joy stick and smash some buttons, or there 40 YO man who have no sort of prospect for their future and they just like teasing little kids and making fun of other people, there is not much friendliness or much to attract me
[00:08:43.13]
have you ever had any negative experiences or positive, in the computer world in gaming or communities?
[00:08:53.18]
i had a few positive experiences with gaming communities and online communities in general, there are a few of people who are kind or helpful, and they go out of their way to help with what ever you are having an issue with
[00:09:18.19]
some people they introduced to me to a game where i was lost in, i was basically a noob, i did not know what to do or where to go, sometime i was not even sure on how to walk around
[00:09:44.12]
Sal: i kind of want to end it with something, what is something that can happened in the online that u can enjoy happen. like VR etc?
[00:10:07.25]
so what is something that you would like in the online community, what is a change you would like to happen
[00:10:20.03]
going forward it will be nice to see online communities become less of a sound box for some twisted views, in real life you don’t have theses kind of issues, since there is the threat of stigma or bad reputation that follows you, but on the internet no one really knows who you are so you can sort of slip out one skin into another
[00:10:57.03]
and it can make some people awful, no one really is held accountable for their actions, there is not legitimacy to what goes on in the internet, it all based on believing. the things that happened there, i mean the only real thing that gives legitimacy is the rise of crytocurrency that is based on real changes
[00:11:50.16]
i kind of want to end on how you connect with the computer, on how has PC been beneficial for in your career?
why is the internet, even though it has these bad connotation , why has it been beneficial towards you?
[00:12:19.13]
even with the negative aspects of the internet, there are a few great aspects about it.
[00:12:40.08]
i think if im not mistaken, this day and age its refer as the age of information. and there is so much information that is being spread around and created at this very moment some of it might be complete rubbish or just no cynical things and some of it can be extremely important to the future of the world.
[00:13:24.19]
there are scientific papers that have been shared on the internet, that probably would have not reach so many viewers or there’s online tutorials for things like fixing your PC, your appliances online that many people that would probably have to destroy their bank accounts just to get something repair
[00:14:03.16]
there’s some online tutorials that inspired me to create my own things its really open the door for some possibilities that i did not existed
[00:14:26.21]
what kind of possibilities?
[00:14:32.28]
these possibilities
[00:14:40.05]
such as online ordering, it allows you to get supplies or materials that you would want or need for a project that you can quickly put together to make something new, something that can help you out or others, with problems that have
currently i have gotten to subject and the topic of AI and how it might influence our future
[00:15:18.22]
recently google release some DIY kits with machine learning
[00:15:35.19]
sal: i switch it and now i just need how was your first experience with the internet?
[00:15:49.20]
my first experience is hard to describe, at first it was a bit scary since i did not know what to do, in the back of my mind i sort of realize that there is so much you can do but at the same time you can mess up
people in general don’t know how open and revealing the internet makes you are just really vulnerable with the information that is gathered with each website you visit every service that you use and everyone you interacted with
there is so much data leakage.
[00:16:41.21]
sal: i think that’s good
[00:16:49.15]
i think that last part a bit short
[00:16:59.18]
i think there is so much of a gap
[00:17:07.19]
that was offline
[00:17:12.09]
sal: how has online change your perspective in gaming?
[00:17:23.08]
i guess you can connect that with how stupid people can be
[00:17:34.26]
sal: what is the importance of online, and how it changed people in the internet
[00:17:48.07]
the internet it just, it gives you false sense of anonymity it makes you think that you are invincible to everyone but yourself , but there is so much markers things that you leave behind that reveal who you are, not enough people realize that it makes me more cautions on who i interact with in the internet and what i do, it basically its an entire record of your self and too many people either don’t care or don’t understand the risk behind all of it.
